CAN DO KIDS The purpose of the CAN DO KIDS ministry is to encourage children to develop an appreciation for their faith spiritually, culturally, and socially through scriptures, which teaches them that having God in their lives makes a difference:
- Spiritually: helps children realize "whose" they are in being "Children of God".
- Culturally: helps children realize "who" they are in being both "African American" and "Children of God"
- Socially: participates in activities where teamwork and fellowship are the focal points in working together as one body in Christ.
CHRISTAFRICAN THEOLOGICAL INSTITUTE The ChristAfrican Theological Institute is a church community-based learning environment whereby members and non-members, clergy, and scholars will "do theology," that is, explore who God is and how God applies to the everyday lives of persons of African descent. The Institute involves African-centered studies and the interactive study, discussion, development, and practice of theology. It also critiques Christianity and the Church to render the Christian faith more responsive and relevant to contemporary problems, issues, and concerns within the African American community and throughout the African Diaspora.
DISCIPLESHIP According to the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 28: 18-20, "And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age."
As members of Covenant, we are called to make disciples who make disciples, who make disciples. So how do you go about making disciples? Come join our discipleship study and we will equip you to go out to all people and show them the goodness and grace of God.
MEDIA RESOURCES The Media Resource Ministry is responsible for organizing and maintaining the church resource center, formerly the church library. Persons working with this ministry will assess various audiovisual Christian products and make recommendations for purchase, track materials on loan, and prepare ministry budget. The ministry also ensures the resource center has up-to-date materials available to the church congregation that will enrich their Christian growth. This primarily refers to Christian books, CDs, software, and videos.
SCHOLARSHIP The Scholarship Ministry continues to encourage and touch the lives of our students by acknowledging their academic successes. The ministry also strives to provide means for our members, as well as other students in the community to attend college by providing financial scholarships. It is our hope that recipients of the scholarships and awards will be greatly motivated and blessed. We strive to exemplify the body of Christ that we proclaim to be in our church mission statement.
| SUNDAY SCHOOL The Sunday School offers biblically-based classes and training for all ages. These sessions are designed to facilitate spiritual growth and development and discovery of God's purpose in our lives. There are also special discipleship training and practical living classes.
COVENANT'S ANGELS (formerly Tiny Tots) Matthew 18:4 reads: "Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Our ministry serves children from infant to 6 years-old.
The Covenant's Angels Ministry (extended Sunday School) realizes that there is no other period of a child's life that is more critical in setting the stage of later development than a child's early years. Children learn their earliest feelings and attitudes about God from their interaction with their parents and the church.
We strive to help our children develop a healthy attitude about the nature of God by demonstrating in all we do that:
- God is Love
- God is Faithful
- God is Mighty
By helping to build this strong foundation in the life of our children, we pray that they will grow physically, mentally, emotionally, socially and spiritually.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL The Vacation Bible School (VBS) ministry is responsible for providing guidance in Christian growth. This includes knowledge of biblical teachings, community outreach, spiritual desires and supporting the Church's vision. Our major goals are:
- Assist the Sunday School Outreach program
- Provide training for its leaders and teachers
- Promote Christian growth-- both cognitive and spiritual
- Promote spiritual teachings in the community
- Improve the recruitment process to increase the attendance of children and adults from the church and the community
YOUTH ON A MISSION The Youth Ministry combines the Gospel message and popular culture in such a way that it helps young people develop and grow into equipped and effective disciples of Christ, who are free to be creative and expressive.
